minimumReleaseAge silently suppresses all updates for large Docker Hub images (tags pagination 403 drops every releaseTimestamp) #46272
How are you running Renovate?Self-hosted Renovate CLI Which platform you running Renovate on?GitLab (.com or self-hosted) Which version of Renovate are you using?44.69.11 Please tell us more about your question or problemWith The cause is that every release arrives without a Minimal reproductionTwo files in an empty directory, no token and no platform setup, using

"minimumReleaseAge": "7 days"
}
$ LOG_LEVEL=debug RENOVATE_PLATFORM=local npx renovate@44.69.11 --dry-run=lookupThen the same run with the pagination capped one page lower: $ LOG_LEVEL=debug RENOVATE_PLATFORM=local RENOVATE_DOCKER_MAX_PAGES=10 npx renovate@44.69.11 --dry-run=lookupObserved difference, measured 2026-09-17:
The counts drift as new versions are published, so a later run shows different numbers, but the pattern holds. Both files are also in a public repository, following the minimal-reproduction instructions: https://github.com/pdecat/renovate-repro-46272 Any Docker Hub image with more than ~1000 tags should do; Why the timestamps go missing
if (err) {
logger.debug({ err }, `Docker: error fetching data from DockerHub`);
return null;
}So the ten pages it already fetched are thrown away, not just the failed one. Lookup falls back to the registry v2 tag list, which has no timestamps at all. Only images with more than ~1000 tags paginate deep enough to reach this. Smaller ones finish in a page or two and are unaffected, which is why this looked like a problem with one specific pin. Workaround
Worth noting what the selected version is once that is in place: the newest release older than 7 days, not the same-day latest. So the age gate behaves exactly as intended as soon as timestamps are present. That corrected a wrong assumption on our side too, that Authenticating the host does not seem possibleThe obvious fix looked like a host rule for
So a host rule there is inert, and adding one looks like a fix while changing nothing. Happy to be told there is a supported way to do it that I missed. Questions
Happy to open an issue or a PR for whichever of these is wanted. Logs (if relevant)Logs |
