Maven parent with dependencyManagement using property, property override in child not triggering updates #46469
How are you running Renovate?Self-hosted Renovate CLI Which platform you running Renovate on?GitLab (.com or self-hosted) Which version of Renovate are you using?44.115.3 Please tell us more about your question or problemI have an app with a pom.xml that has a parent. The parent defines dependencyManagement and uses a variable for the version, like so: The parent in this case is a public, well known dependency In my app pom.xml I override the property with a newer version - newer, but not the latest: Looking at my Dependency Dashboard, I see that the dependency is not detected. As you can see, in this specific case, this is a "bom import" (type=pom, scope=import). Logs (if relevant)Logs |

Your options are to keep the explicit import in your pom, or to add a regex custom manager that targets the property: {
"customManagers": [
{
"customType": "regex",
"managerFilePatterns": ["/(^|/)pom\\.xml$/"],
"matchStrings": ["<jackson-bom\\.version>(?<currentValue>[^<]+)</jackson-bom\\.version>"],
"depNameTemplate": "tools.jackson:jackson-bom",
"datasourceTemplate": "maven"
}
]
}Support for remote parent resolution would be a feature request, so feel free to open an "Suggest an idea" discussion for it. |
mavenmanager only resolves<parent>poms that exist in the repo (via relativePath); it doesn't fetch remote parents likespring-boot-dependencies. So thejackson-bomimport in the parent is never seen, and yourjackson-bom.versionoverride isn't tied to any dependency. That's why adding the import to your own pom makes it work.Your options are to keep the explicit import in your pom, or to add a regex custom manager that targets the property:
